Jessica W. Burgert, M.D.
As a board certified Family Physician, my passion is to provide highly personalized care to each of my patients. My desire is to help all of my patients (regardless of age or current state of health) to optimize their physical and mental wellbeing, happiness, longevity, and productivity. I spend a lot of time with my patients in order to understand how their stressors, nutrition, environment, relationships, activity levels and more affect their health. It is my ability to listen and my desire to truly understand the root cause of a problem that led me to join the MDVIP family. Sometimes compared to “concierge medicine,” the MDVIP model of healthcare allows for the optimization of the doctor/patient relationship through longer visits, more direct access to the provider, and shorter wait times for appointments. MDVIP understands that we (the doctor and patient) get the best outcomes when we can work as a team to achieve our goals. At Chapel Hill Family Medicine, we will do all of this in a warm and welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and a commitment towards customer service.
I think it is helpful to know a bit about me personally so that you can understand why and how I practice medicine. I am an identical twin which means I have been working as a team since I was in utero! We came from a family of artists and I initially studied architecture before realizing that my true passion was in helping others (though I still love design and aesthetic). My undergraduate degree in Psychology has helped me to understand what makes myself and others tic, and I believe it is an asset in providing quality care to my patients. After graduating medical school, I spent time in the Air Force where I gained leadership skills and a profound respect for our military members. I am LGBTQ friendly and believe that all people regardless of their gender, race, or sexual orientation deserve equal and excellent care. I have a passion for studying nutrition, integrative, and complementary medicine in order to broaden my knowledge and to optimize my patients’, my family’s, and my own health. I enjoy being physically active and I encourage my patients to do the same. Finally, I love to teach and to write about health. I believe that knowledge is power and that my job as a doctor is to educate my patients so that they may feel empowered to take control over their own health. To that end, I frequently provide informational handouts or suggested reading materials to my patients at their visits; I also contribute to a local publication in order to reach a wider audience to promote health and wellness in the community.
